FAQ

Stillpoint Meditations

What if I’ve never meditated before?

Perfect! The whole new undiscovered world of your mind awaits! Stillpoint’s meditations are designed to be accessible for beginners and experienced meditators alike. We recommend starting with Introduction to Meditation and the Introduction to Mindful Motherhood series, and then following up with any other meditations that speak to you. You’ll get the hang of it quickly!

What if I have a hard time staying focused and present?

We’ve all been there! That is precisely why meditation is called a “practice.” Because we are all just practicing quieting the mind. Meditation should never be straining, but it does require (and increase) heightened awareness. Thoughts keep arising? No problem. Just notice what is occurring, and return your attention to the breath. Every time you return you are training your mind, and you’ll find it happening less often as you keep up your practice.

How and where should I sit?

The main thing is to be comfortable. It can be in a chair, cross-legged on the floor, or even lying down in your bed if you can stay alert. But remember it is important to keep proper posture, in order for your breath to flow freely. At the beginning, it’s best to find a place to meditate with minimal distraction, whether at home, car, work, or in nature.

Are Stillpoint meditations religiously affiliated?

All of our content is non-religious in nature and is based in the vipassana meditation tradition, which simply calms the mind by continually drawing the attention to the present moment.
